Good-bye

Hello,
I have decided to stop blogging. It makes me a bit sad but I know that it's the right choice. I simply do not have the time to blog anymore. This school year has been incredibly intense and demanding and it's only going to get worse. What's more, the studies I have chosen to pursue for next year and the year after that are one of the most busy in France. (if you're curious, I want to do a biology prépa) And I realized that I don't want to spend the little free time I have blogging. Managing a blog is a lot of work. You have to plan in advance, make the project, take pictures and write the text part of the post before you can hit the publish button. And while I love the whole process, it has become too time-consuming for me. I will not delete this blog because I am proud of everything on here and want people to still be able to read old posts.
But I am not quitting the internet all together! You can still follow me on instagram at totally.elsa and see my drawings on tumblr at ek-drawings. And maybe in a few years I'll start blogging again if I miss it too much.
I wish you a very nice day, and week and new year!
Love, Elsa

Portrait #10 - Gage Golightly

Hi friends!
Today's portrait is one of the lovely Gage Golightly. I found this picture of her on tumblr and I just loved the facial expression so I decided to draw it. I've been trying to go out of my comfort zones and draw people with diverse facial expressions as it's more tricky but also more challenging and fun. I think I did pretty well. And I'm really happy about the hair. I'm really getting the hang of it. What do you think?

Portrait #9 - Bruised

Hello!
Today I want to show you this art project I did a little while ago. The subject was "nothing that is different leaves you indifferent" (or something like that, it's a bit hard to translate). Um, I feel a bit weird talking about my art because it's more than the usual portraits I do, so I'll leave you with this. Love, Elsa

Lyric Art #2

Hello!
Here is the second lyric art post that I promised. This one is for a fan of Taylor Swift. Choosing what lyrics to write was a bit hard because there are so many great ones. But I finally settled on the classic "darling I'm a nightmare dressed like a daydream" from Blank Space. My inspiration for the roses was the lyric "rose gardens filled with thorns" because a rose is beautiful but dangerous. I'm really proud of these pieces. The writing was done with an ink pen and filled in with a felt-tip pen. The calligraphy effect was achieved by making every line that goes down thicker. I think the bold black really stands out on the crispy white. I also decided to make the letters on the second sheet a bit more loopy to make it more interesting, and I added a classic floral border. I drew the roses with an ink pen and filled in with watercolors, so I had to be really careful not to smudge the black but I think it worked. I wish you an awesome day.

Lyric Art #1

Hi!
Sorry about the delay in posting lately. I've been really busy and I think this school year is gonna make it impossible for me to post every 5 days like I used to. I'll try to post at least once a week.
Anyway, back to the actual post. These are some pieces I made for a friend's birthday. Her birthday was on the 19th but since I won't be seeing her until next week, I could get away with making her gift a bit later. I asked her what her favorite song was and she said it was Bloom by Paper Kites. So I listened to it a few times, wrote down some of the lyrics and finally settled on "the trees are filled with memories of the feelings never told", which I think is a beautiful sentence. I'm not sure where the inspiration came from for the color scheme but let's hope she likes it. I think she will.
I painted the gradient with a sponge, and then waited until it was completely dray to paint the white tree silhouette. The tree required a few coats to be opaque and the leaves took so much time, ugh. But I'm quite happy with the result. As for the writing, it's pretty self explanatory. I mixed blue and red and white together to get five different shades that matched the gradient on the tree piece and then I simply wrote the sentence down, alternating between capital letters and cursive.
Stay tuned for another lyric art post because that friend has a twin, whom I am also friends with, and she deserves a gift too! I'm going to be making something Taylor Swift. Have a great day and bye!
